Fashion is an attitude

The Fashion Institute Vienna under new direction

MMag. Monika Kycelt, Interview: Harald Weiler

After an intensive search for Gerda Buxbaum’s successor, Monika Kycelt is now responsible for the approximately 140 students. The bar is high considering that her predecessor has over a period of ten years turned the Higher School of Fashion and Product Design into a highly successful institution for young creative people. The focus for the future development of the institute is on internationalisation and creative competence.

Another change concerns the bachelor fashion course of the Linz University of Art and Design at the Fashion Institute Vienna. The design duo Wally Salner and Johannes Schweiger, better known as ___fabrics interseason, have been running this course since the start of the semester.

The bachelor course was launched in the winter semester 06/07 in cooperation with the Linz University of Art and Design, but up until recently it was also under the direction of the head of school.
Now run as a separate course, the students should experience a transdisciplinary understanding of fashion and a diversity of creative design approaches.
