Isabelle Steger
Designer Isabelle Steger graduated from the fashion department at the University of Applied Arts Vienna under Raf Simons
and Veronique Branquinho. Her collections are characterised by the examination of social phenomena, social codes and the break-up
of prevalent beauty norms. The theoretical background plays as much a part in this as her relation to pop culture and the
(aesthetic) ideas resulting from it. The wearers corporality is either entirely blocked out or deliberately employed
to renegotiate the perception of beauty and identity.
In her first, very successful collection
iTrue she contrasted the formal language of conventional office attire with a strongly geometrical silhouette and
juxtaposed 1980s powerdressing with high, yet strongly sloping shoulders. She thus constructed a metaphoric-seeming
line oscillating between weakness and strength, exploitation and insurgence.
In 2007 Isabelle Steger
received the Adlmüller scholarship and in 2008 was a finalist at the Festival de Mode et de Photographie in Hyères.
