The CFA - Contemporary Fashion Archive was an international research and event project for contemporary fashion design. The five renowned European fashion institutions Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design (London), Dutch Fashion Foundation (Amsterdam), Flanders Fashion Institute (Antwerp), Hochschule für Gestaltung, Technik und Wirtschaft (Pforzheim) and Unit F büro für mode collaborated to build the first information network for identifying and presenting current positions and developments in fashion design.

This information is supplied to the public on an Internet platform with a digital archive and at documentation centres established at the partner institutions. The CFA was set up between May 2002 and late 2005. It was initiated by Unit F büro für mode and received funding from the European Union for a period of three years as an exemplary project for the use of modern communication technologies (as part of the EU’s Culture 2000 programme). CFA was officially presented on 6 November 2003 at the MUMOK Lounge in Vienna’s MuseumsQuartier.
