Deliberately, deprecative and discrimintating terms of everyday language are captured and by appropriation drawn off their offending power. Based on Judith Butler´s theory on politics of the performative, in this installation presented by KÖR, Jakob Lena Knebl turns into a projection surface and delivers herself up to the public while taking the wind out of potential hostilities´ sails.
The same strategy that homosexual men used very successfully by taking the originally abusive term "gay" and turning it into a proud self-description.
As unfortunately it is still not natural to just live as a human being, this memorial is not just one for the victims of National Socialism but one for everybody suffering under intolerance, hatred and incomprehension still today.
