In cooperation with the Swedish spirit producer, Absolut Vodka, Unit F büro für mode developed a project for the lounge area of the Unit F office space designed to meet two requirements: as accessory and exhibition piece, Absolut On The Rocks referred to Absolut Vodkas long tradition of artistically inspired marketing. In its use as a bar, it should serve a purely practical function as a piece of furniture.
Unit F commissioned the architects Marie-Therese Harnoncourt and Ernst J. Fuchs from the office, the nextENTERprise, to design it. The piece of bar furniture received the form of three ice cubes made of raw glass, lit from within, hinting at body-like inclusions in the glass, which can be freely combined as a bar. After the presentation, the furniture piece, Absolut On The Rocks, was also used for numerous other events held at Unit F.
The first Absolut Vodka bar was conceived and realised by the Austrian artist, Christof Hinterhuber, for the fashion exhibition, Mode in den Medien der 90er, curated by Christian Muhr and Ulrike Tschabitzer-Handler.
