Design in all its different facets is at the centre of VIENNA DESIGN WEEK. Spread out across Vienna, presentations, exhibitions, talks, tours and parties dedicated to the experimental work in product, industrial, furniture and graphic design will be taking place over a period of ten days.

The geographical focal points this year are the Viennese distric Hernals and  the Swedish world of design. Together with IKEA, VIENNA DESIGN WEEK organised a competition in advance to design a space with minimal means. The four most creative and colourful teams will now be competing against each other live in front of an audience.
The focal point Hernals comprises a project conceived together with project partner Lebendige Innere Hernalser Hauptstraße, an initiative aiming to add sustainable value to the streets of Hernals.

On 2 October, VIENNA DESIGN WEEK will celebrate its Hernals debut. Design students and graduates will present their works submitted for the James Dyson award under the title of Mind Blowing Heroes, which will be followed by an awards ceremony. The Passionswege will also lead through companies based in Hernals.

In addition to the Passionswege, this year’s VIENNA DESIGN WEEK will also feature the Wienlive tours, which were also part of the festival for fashion & photography. As part of this, design-conscious celebrities will host guided tours through select workshops, show rooms and studios.

On 1 October at KUNSTHALLE Wien, departure and publishing house Schlegerbrügge.Editor (Vienna) will present a new publication on the creative scene in Vienna entitled NEW VIENNA NOW / CONTEMPORARY VIENNA. In 17 chapters the most exciting personalities from the fields of architecture, fashion, fine art, film, design, labels, games, performance, shops and magazines are introduced. Stefan Sagmeister was responsible for the graphic design of the book. He will also be present at the book launch.
