Housing one of the biggest collections of international contemporary photography, the MMK presents the innovative and radical works of designers, photographers and artists in the 90s as part of the multi-faceted exhibition Not in Fashion. You get to pay witness to how they celebrated an entirely new corporeality in the major capitals of the world and portrayed youth culture, outside the realms of mainstream fashion photography, in an authentic way.
Helmut Lang and Jürgen
Teller show a series of photographs from the backstage area at Langs fashion shows in which subjective intimacy and
sensitivity become the photographic focus. Their close collaboration is underlined by Langs Front Row piece
and original documentation of his presentation venues.
As part of the comprehensive programme of events accompanying
the exhibition, designers such as Walter van Beirendonck, Susan Cianciolo, Kostas Murkudis, Vanessa Beecroft present performances
and fashion shows, reproductions of influential photo stories and innovative ad campaigns by Helmut Lang, Jürgen Teller or
Yohji Yamamoto are on show, as is a large selection of original fashion magazines compiled by M/M (Paris).
