The virtual exhibition, Smart Environment, and an accompanying symposium for the Designzone Looshaus showed new aspects
and trend-setting connections between computer technology, design and communication. The Unit F team broke new ground in the
digital communication of information by presenting an exhibition in the virtual knowledge space where virtuality and reality
merge into one aesthetic and conceptual entity.
Smart Environment started
with the Smart Talks on 16 and 17 May 2002. On the first day Orhan Kipcak of admTM hosted a round-table
discussion with Naziha Mestaoui (electronic shadow, F), Thomas Fuerstner (ZKM, G) and Herbert
Lachmayer (Kunstuniversität Linz, A) on perspectives of virtual exhibition presentations for museums, curators
and media designers. On the second day Andreas Berbaur and his guests, Prof. Nadia Magnenat Thalmann
(MIRALab, CH) andSuzanne Lee (Central Saint Martin's College, UK) discussed the theme of New Technologies and
Design Processes.
