Unit F ~PROJECT > MATERIAL/IZATION SIMON THOROGOOD/SPORE MATERIAL/IZATION SIMON THOROGOOD/SPORE Solo Exhibition on Fashion and Media 22 05 2001 30 06 2001 Simon Thorogood represents one of the few new Couture-labels in the UK. Having founded the label 1998 in London, he is working solely on order and modifying his designs together with his customers, resulting in very personal pieces of clothing. His access to fashion can be seen in the tradition of Pierre Cardin and André Courrèges; non-fashion as a principle in order to be able to create truly contemporary fashion design. Simon Thorogood takes as his source of inspiration less past fashions, styles or eras, but modern aeroplane technologies, industrial design, minimal music and architecture. His clothes are thoroughly constructed products, and are described ranging from medieval to futuristic, even seemingly ecclesiastic. The stylistic signature is shown in the sole use of the classical couture-material: satin-duchesse of pure silk. Together with the media-group Spore, including amongst others the artist Suzanne Lee and the software designer Benedict Sheehan, Simon Thorogood is staging his presentation as a hypermodern installation, incorporating fashion, digital art and electronic music. The cooperation with fashion-futurist Lee is enhancing new concepts of fashion-presentation, which do justice to today's pluralistic conception of art. In Vienna Simon Thorogood and Spore will present a multimedia-installation at the Unit F ~SPACE. |
