Individualisation in fashion
custom clothing between distinction...
Who needs the individually produced garment, a garment that exists only once in the world? Has custom-made clothing a future beyond the upper echelon?
Certain trends indicate that there might well be a rosy future ahead for the unique garment. The trend towards individualised consumption, for instance, has already been taken up by the industry in form of mass customization. Or the trend towards a more conscious consumption, towards less and better is more and the willingness to spend more money on socially and ecologically sustainable products. With this in mind, the locally manufactured item of custom clothing means an all-round upgrade: quality material, longevity, more personal connections to the product and its production, adequate wage levels, self-confident consumers.
Is a product that only exists once, a realistic scenario? Here, it is safe to say that it is not merely a question of price but of a new culture evolving.
